An online learning tool for businesses that wish to teach their staff various concepts that will improve their productivity. The employees would be required to watch a series of videos and were then asked to complete an online exam that would test their knowledge and understanding of the subject.

At the time there was a lack of online resources that enable businesses to professionally train their employees within their own time.SalesDNA had only provided on-site business coaching for companies of various sizes and working within various industries. Their on-site coaching spans tutition throughout all key areas of running, managing and working within a business. The objective is to create incentives for employees and management and improve the effeciency of current business practices.
By utilising their extensive range of educational materials, SalesDNA wished to make this content available online and provide access to businesses and sole-traders via a paid registration process.
Objectives
From our discussions, we have identified the following key objectives:The primary objective is to develop an online educational resource that delivers high-quality content to sole-traders and businesses.
• Content to be delivered via a number of methods; including video, sample templates, key-point summaries and detailed notes. • Provide a functionality that enables managers to quiz and grade their employees as they progress throughout the tutorial content. • Enable managers to examine the employees ability to understand the key criteria of the learning material. • Provide additional support to registered members and encourage sociability through the use of blogs and forums. • Design an engaging website that’s visually attractive whilst being highly intuitive. • Provide an interface that enables content and products to be easily added and maintained by internal staff.Solution Overview
SalesDNA aims to provide the extensive range of content in a intuitive and enjoyable way. The interface is to be minimal and to ensure the content is the primary focus. The education material must capture the users attention and keep them interested and entertained as they learn. An effective way of achieving this is via the use of tutorial videos, done in the format of a presenter discussing topics with the aid of on-screen graphics. This format is quite common and accepted as an efficient and engaging method to train staff advanced skills within short periods of time.Given the prominence of online video through websites like YouTube and Vimeo, it is now a popular and dependable to deliver content via this medium. A vast majority of users a connected to the internet at ADSL speeds which is sufficient to stream HD video at 480p. Therefore we believe the optimum way to deliver the primary educational content, would be in a presented tutorial-based video format.
The user must be able to easiliy navigate throughout the vast amount of content and drill-down to areas of specific interest. As the user peruses and interacts with the content it must become obvious as to their current progress and have an appreciation of what learning material is required to complete.
Content must be categorised and sorted by topic. The categorisation will enable users to seek out specific skills that they may wish to develop. By segmenting the content into smaller bite-size pieces it allows the user to watch videos without committing too much time at once.
A crucial part of the learning process, is the ability to follow-up tutorials by completing a short quiz. This enables the learner to further instill the key concepts demonstrated throughout the tutorials. The website will facilitate this process via the inclusion of a coach-mode setting. The Coach-mode will consist of a number of questions related to the material, that can be answered in a written format. The submissions to these questions can then be scored by the manager as to get an appreciation of the performance of that particular employee.
